Looking Good, Feeling Great
Personal development inspired by Paris Hilton! That’s hot!
I recently watched a show on TV about Paris Hilton. Pretty much a show of the trashiest variety. I sure would like to have that hour of my life back, but that’s not the way time works. So, maybe let’s see if I could get something out of it.
One thing that the TV show kept harping on was the way Paris was constantly checking herself out in the mirror. Pretty much every mirror that she passes by, she would look at it. The funny entertaining commentary of course would be to say is that she is narcissistic. The thing is, she is constantly under the public eye and she just wants to look her best.
If checking herself out in the the mirror is good enough for Paris, then checking myself out in the mirror is good enough for me.
In my youth, I’ve spent hours in the mirror myself, working on my “lady killer” smile. Not just the smile but also the entire facial expression: the brush of the hair, the knowing nod, the enchanting eyes. I remember trying that smile out on girls and getting good reaction. I think of it as my long range ballistic missiles as I would try to work it on someone on the far side of the room. Ahhh, the silly things we used to do when we were young. Come to think of it, I think I still use that look today. Anyhow… (Bonus points if someone want to give my look a name! Surely this look deserve the same reverence as Blue Steel and Magnum, if you get the obscure Zoolander reference.)
The point is: we are constantly judged on the way we look, the way we speak, the clothes we wear. And yes, judging people based on looks is shallow but the reality is, how we carry ourselves affect the way people react to us. I still remember the days when I had coloured hair – I swear that I would get better service from the waitresses and cashiers! I’m not saying that we should all get hot like Paris; I’m just saying that it doesn’t hurt to look your best.
When you look good, you feel good and people will be drawn to that. Tell the man in the mirror: Alfred says that you’re hot!
